OCT – Now Included in the SVS Service Catalog
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) plays a central role in ophthalmology. It enables high-resolution, non-invasive imaging of the retinal layers and is indispensable for the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, or glaucoma. Precise imaging allows therapeutic measures to be initiated at an early stage.
OCT has been firmly established in clinical routine for many years, yet until now, it was not included in the service catalogs of the Styrian ÖGK, BVAEB, and SVS. Now, the SVS has recognized OCT as a covered benefit throughout Austria and included it in its service catalog. Therefore, OCT can now be performed whenever medically necessary without concern for the resulting costs. For those insured with the ÖGK in Styria—unlike in Vienna or Carinthia, for example—the examination still cannot be billed directly. The same applies to BVAEB and KFA. However, processing for cost reimbursement is now automated thanks to the WAH interface. We are happy to handle the reimbursement process for patients insured with these providers.
